Job Description:

Primary Responsibilities

  • Digitize archival materials for the Department and manage digital assets for preservation.
  • Continually evaluate analog archival materials for potential digitization and identify at-risk collections or frequently requested collections for the Department.
  • Devise digitization workflows and train other staff members as needed.
  • Continually upload new Special Collections content to the library catalog and edit existing content.
  • Collaborate with the Technical Services Division to manage metadata records and access to digital materials.
  • Oversee all aspects of digital asset management workflow and develop policies regarding the access and the preservation of digital files.
  • Serve as the primary contact for all digital project-related inquiries and initiatives.
  • Work with Library Systems staff to maintain digitization equipment and procure new digitization products.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Information Technology to ensure proper maintenance of digital master files in the cloud system.
  • Work with external digitization vendors and digital platforms outside of the library as needed.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the Department's mission and goals as a member of the Special Collections and Archives group.

Minimum Qualifications:

ALA credited Master's of Library Science or Master's of History.
Two years experience processing digital archival collections, including experience creating metadata descriptions, digital, and care of born-digital materials.
One year experience using ArchivesSpace and D-Space or other digital repository or content/asset management system.
Working knowledge of new and emerging library services and their application is required. Demonstrated success on project teams consisting of librarians, support staff, and programmer/ developers.

  • Two years of experience digitizing archival materials and providing metadata descriptions.
  • One year of experience using ArchivesSpace and other digital repositories or content/asset management systems.
  • Experience in digitizing various archival materials, such as audio tapes, moving and still images, and documents using appropriate hardware.
  • Strong knowledge of US copyright laws related to libraries/archives and open access restrictions.
  • Demonstrated success on project teams consisting of curators or librarians.
  • Familiarity with Ex Libris Library Services Platform.
  • Digital Archives Specialist ( DAS ) certificate from the Society of American Archivists ( SAA ) and/or current certification from the Academy of Certified Archivists ( ACA ).
  • Demonstrate a commitment to personal and professional development through scholarly research and publication, presentations, and participation in national professional associations.
