POSITION SUMMARY

The Accounting and Payroll Manager is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing and managing the financial operations and payroll processes of Harper Ellis Hair Co. The Accounting and Payroll Manager works closely with Harper Ellis Hair Co.’s leadership, the finance team, HR department, and other key stakeholders to maintain robust financial controls, streamline processes, and provide strategic financial insights to ensure financial health and operational efficiency of the organization. This position requires a proactive and strategic thinker with a strong foundation in accounting practice capable of leading a team and driving continuous improvement in financial operations.

OBJECTIVES

  • Oversee and manage the day-to-day accounting management operations.
  • Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.
  • Prepare, analyze, and present financial statements and reports to company executives and provide financial insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making.
  • Assist in company budgeting and forecasting processes.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant accounting standards, tax regulations, generally accepted accounting principles, financial reporting standards and internal policies.
  • Lead and mentor the accounting and payroll team, providing guidance and support for professional development.
  • Develop and implement internal controls to safeguard the organization's assets and ensure financial integrity.
  • Assist in preparing internal department annual budgets and train internal department leads to prepare annual budget reports.
  • Coordinates the preparation of the company’s various tax returns.
  • Develop and maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Oversee company payroll processes
  • Oversees the accurate and timely processing of withholdings related to employee benefit plans.

COMPETENCIES

  • Strong knowledge of and ability to adhere to accrual accounting principles and standards, tax regulations, generally accepted accounting principles, financial reporting standards, and payroll practices.
  • Ability to timely and correctly prepare tax reports and financial statements..
  • Assist in company budgeting and forecasting processes.
  • Knowledge of accrual bookkeeping practices and procedures and ability to train company staff to support the same.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and payroll systems.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in accounting, with a preferred emphasis on accrual based accounting.y
  • Four years or more of related experience required.
  • General payroll management experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Able to travel as needed.
