Academic Advisor I, Full-Time, $18.45/Hour

Montana Tech invites applications for an Academic Advisor I.  The Academic  Advisor will work directly with first year and continuing students pursuing four-year degrees through the Lance College of Mines and Engineering and will collaborate with  faculty and staff to cultivate an environment that supports students success.

The successful candidate will 

Duties:

  • Advise current new and potential students in the Lance College of Mines and Engineering (LCME)
  • Engage in regular communication with students to support enrollment and retention
  • Utilize student Information Systems such as Banner, OrediggerWeb, and EAB Navigate to facilitate and track student meetings
  • Collaborate and coordinate with faculty and staff to support student success
  • Provide referrals to appropriate campus resources
  • Interpret and communicate academic rules and regulations including course catalog and math/writing placement
  • Assist with LCME new student orientation sessions and information sessions in Freshman Engineering Seminar

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Strong understanding of higher education
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in a variety of situations
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in computer software programs and/or ability to learn new software programs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in STEM field
  • Two years related experience and advising background
  • Knowledge of university-level advising policies and procedures
  • Ability to demonstrate genuine empathy and care for students, their challenges and their success
  • Fluency with student information software such as Banner, OrediggerWeb, DegreeWorks, EAB Navigate
